One of the most common complaints our patients bring to the clinic is neck or back pain from too much sitting. Avoiding long periods of sitting can be difficult in the modern working environment but there are plenty of ways to mitigate the strain of desk based work on your body. Here are the top tips from our osteopathic experts

Desktop Computer

  • Try to keep your neck in line with your spine, avoid dropping your head forward.
  • Keep your chest open with shoulders back and down.
  • Keep a gentle curve in your lower back.

Laptop Computer

If you use a laptop as your main computer, we  would recomend buying a seprate mouse and a wireless keyboard for regular use.

Standing Desk

  • Adjust the height of the desk so your elbows are at 90 degrees and your shoulders can relax whilst your forearms rest on the desk
  • Stand on an even surface with your hips , knees and ankles stacked on top of each other in a straight line.
  • Position your hips so that your pelvis is in neutral and not rotating forwards or backwards
  • Change position after 20 mins.
